Myriorama is derived from the Greek words myriad, meaning "multitude" and orama meaning"scene" or "view" The original Myriorama was invented in France in 1823 by Jean Pierre Brés. Called a "Tableau Polyoptique", it featured 16 cards replete with a continuous horizon with castles, ruins, rivers, lakes and wandering figures making their way across an "endless landscape" with 20,922,789,888,000 variations. More versions were created and it quickly became a craze in Victorian England where there were reports of "Myriorama Addiction". Writers like Byron, Shelly and Bram Stoker were said to use Myriorama as a tool to plot their novels.
